Former Erie Coke Site
On October 6th 2023, a partnership between The Erie-Western PA Port Authority (EWPPA) & The Erie County Redevelopment Authority (ECRDA) was formed at a joint meeting of the Board of Directors to investigate the potential acquisition and environmental clean-up of the former Erie Coke Corporation property. On May 15th 2024, EWPPA became owners of the property.
Information about the property and updates on the progress are available through the ECRDA:

Though environmental testing is still ongoing, EWPPA began a process in late 2024 to develop a vision for the future of the former Erie Coke site. A clear and flexible vision for the property will accelerate its transformation into a vital component of the City of Erie and the Lake Erie waterfront by supporting funding requests, providing guidance on remediation alternatives, and providing context for the evaluation of future development proposals.
This process included community and stakeholder input at multiple steps along the way, as well as a review of the environmental reports completed by PADEP, economic impact studies, and evaluation of existing Port infrastructure.
The resulting plan, adopted by the EWPPA Board of Directors on May 13, 2026, is available at the links below:
